East Africa Marine App

This mobile application has been developed in the framework of the GMES & Africa - Marine and Coastal Management Service for the East Africa region. The application is intended for fishermen and provides information on ocean conditions and potential fishing zones.

Forecast of ocean conditions are derived using products from the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service. This information is freely accessible and includes charts of sea surface currents, sea surface height, sea surface temperature, salinity, sea surface winds and significant wave heights that can be useful to fishers and the public at large for increased safety at sea.

Potential Fishing Zones are productive regions of the ocean where fish are likely to aggregate. These areas are identified using sea surface temperature fronts and charts of chlorophyll-a. In order to access information concerning potential fishing zones, the user needs to register first.
